Today, Greg Freeman announces his sophomore album ‘Burnover’, due for release on 22nd August by Transgressive/Canvasback Records.  Alongside the announcement, Greg is releasing the lead single ‘Point and Shoot’, an expansive livewire of a track, with raw, chaotic guitars and surreal lyricism that at points recalls Pavement.

Also revealed today is the single’s accompanying video, filmed in black and white and referencing 19th Century US history, an era which Greg has drawn on for inspiration through ‘Burnover’.  The album’s title is in fact borrowed from the term ‘The Burned-Over District,’ which was used to describe parts of central and western New York that became hotbeds of fervent religious revival and utopian communities during the early 19th century. 

“Making the video was very fun,” Greg recalls. “Me and a bunch of friends basically drank and smoked in my basement for 6 straight hours.  In my mind, the song has to do with chasing desire, or trying to relive the past in some unhealthy way.  But it could be about a lot of things.  There’s a line in the song, “you laughed and said ‘yeah the crime of the century.'” That’s something a cop told me after he pulled me over for speeding. Then he gave me a 300$ ticket.”

When Greg quietly released his debut album ‘I Looked Out’ in 2022, it had no PR campaign, label, or music industry promo, but still garnered praise from notable critics across the US, with Steven Hyden of UPROXX calling it “my favorite album of 2022 that I discovered in 2023,” and Paste Magazine naming it among the 25 Best Debut Albums of the 2020s. The word-of-mouth success of that release had Freeman on a relentless tour schedule.

The opening track to ‘Burnover’, ‘Point and Shoot’ is as explosive, unsettling, and undeniable as the 9 tracks that follow. Effortlessly melding energetic indie rock with an ambling twang and elements of Americana, it is both adventurous and personal yet and firmly cements Freeman as a singular talent.
