NME and Dork cover features have helped make band Rocket a hot tip, and now there’s much more to come from the rising Los Angeles quartet. They today share the new track ‘One Million’, their first new single since signing to Transgressive Records / Canvasback and reissuing their debut EP ‘Versions of You’. It emerges as the band are set to play two runs of UK dates this summer.

Opening with wailing guitar leads before breaking into the harmony laden verse and soaring chorus, ‘One Million’ delves deeper into their dreamy, ‘90s-tinged exploration of alt-rock and shoegaze sounds.

Rocket commented, “‘One Million’ is about wanting someone to meet you halfway but not knowing if they ever will. It’s the feeling of doing everything you can, going above and beyond for someone, knowing that you would wait a million years for them just to notice how important they are to you. It’s the hoping that maybe you are as important to them as well. It’s learning to be okay with the fact that you might always love them more.”

Rocket became vocalist/bassist Alithea Tuttle’s future after an earlier dream had died. She had been a promising dancer in her teens, but that destiny was curtailed due to a spinal injury. Instead she teamed up with guitarist Desi Scaglione and channelled that energy into making music which wielded the dreamy and explosive guitar-dense textures of The Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine with the bite of Fugazi and Helmet. 

Rocket was fully realised when guitarist Baron Rinzler and Tuttle’s childhood friend, drummer Cooper Ladomade, jammed relentlessly as a quartet during the pandemic era. While they couldn’t play shows, that time imbibed them with the shared musical telepathy of a band who have been touring together for years. A chance acquisition of a 1970s Yamaha PM-1000 mixer console at a local garage sale provided an opportunity to DIY record their debut EP, ‘Versions of You’, which was entirely self-written by the band with production courtesy of Desi.

The EP earned further praise from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, Paste and Consequence. The forward momentum put the band on the road for most of 2024, opening for iconic bands like The Pixies’ Frank Black, Ride, Sunny Day Real Estate and Silversun Pickups as well as peers including Julie, Bar Italia and Hotline TNT. The band appeared on festival stages around the world, including Pitchfork London and Paris, Bumbershoot and Best Friends Forever.

Earlier this year the band shared ‘Take Your Aim’ alongside a Consequence ‘Origins’ feature. The blistering new track was added to the tracklist of the newly reissued EP, which received its first vinyl and CD release via Transgressive Records / Canvasback. Transgressive’s official store offers physical copies on black vinyl, yellow vinyl and CD.

Rocket’s hectic tour schedule includes a UK headline tour followed by a run of big outdoor shows with The Smashing Pumpkins – tickets for their headline gigs are available HERE.
