NME cover stars Rocket return with the brand new single ‘Take Your Aim’, a track that now features on the reissue of their debut EP ‘Versions of You’ which is re-released digitally today and on limited edition vinyl and CD on April 18th. Both releases come via a new deal with Transgressive Records / Canvasback.

The blistering ‘Take Your Aim’ floods the soundscapes bathed with swathes of distorted shoegaze-meets-grunge guitar, and topped by Alithea Tuttle’s dreamy, ethereal vocal. It feels like a new generation’s answer to their key influences, My Bloody Valentine and The Smashing Pumpkins, underpinned by the attitude and attack of Fugazi and Helmet.

Vocalist / bassist Alithea Tuttle says, “‘Take Your Aim’ being our first piece of new music since our EP came out feels right. It was written at the same time as most of the songs on the EP and really reflects where we were as a band at the time. 

‘Take Your Aim’ feels as pertinent as ever for us as a band. ‘Take Your Aim’ is the indignant response to feeling misunderstood or taken advantage of by someone but not being able to confront them about it. Feeling hurt by someone you used to feel so close to and knowing that they are okay with the situation having no resolve. Despite all of the sadness and anger, still not being able to open up a conversation with them about it, knowing that your intentions and feelings will ultimately remain misconstrued. It’s about a friendship that was built upon them taking more than they give and watching the friendship grow sour as time goes on. The verses illustrate the nature of the relationship; what that person says is what goes and no one can change their mind. The choruses fall back into the repetitiveness of overthinking; if this is all my fault like you say it is, then take your aim.”

The new ‘Versions of You’ reissue will see the EP release on vinyl and CD formats for the first time. It is now available to pre-order HERE.

Also featuring Baron Rinzler (guitar), Cooper Ladomade (drums) and Desi Scaglione (guitar), Rocket became a hot tip with international acclaim for ‘Versions of You’. That reputation further flourished as they opened for iconic artists such as Ride, Frank Black, Sunny Day, Real Estate and Silversun Pickups, as well as peers including julie, Bar Italia and Hotline TNT. Their festival highlights to date have included Pitchfork London and Paris, Bumbershoot and Best Friends Forever

Rocket’s roots go back to childhood, and the band itself was formed in high school. As they spent pretty much every day together anyhow, becoming a band was a natural next step. In early 2021, the group scraped together what money they had and rented the cheapest space they could find, rehearsing religiously for months until their first show. Inspired by the success of that first performance, the band convened in Cooper’s parents’ back house, and using a 1970s Yamaha PM-1000 recording console that was donated to their elementary school, recorded their first EP. Despite their youth, there’s a confidence and strength of vision across these songs that is rare to find in a debut. 

Rocket will play an LA Fire Relief Benefit show at the city’s Zebulon venue on February 8th. The band will return to the UK for the Manchester leg of the Outbreak Festival on June 14th.
